SKH Roundup: December 15th 2025
The US Immigration efforts are going about as expected, but at least we can balance that out with a fresh round of terrible AI-generated commercials
Top of Mind
I want to take a sec up front to acknowledge a few major events across the world.
First, I want to mention the horrific attack at Bondi Beach in Australia, where two gunmen opened fire on a crowd of people gathered for a Hanukkah celebration. At least 16 people were killed and dozens more wounded. One shooter was killed and another was arrested. I wanna take a second to also highlight Ahmed al Ahmed, a local shop owner who tackled one of the gunmen, disarming him at the cost of his own safety. He took two bullets from the other gunman, but is recovering in the hospital.
Next, and this one is even more difficult: I want to draw some attention to this report from The Irish Times, detailing the brutal massacre that has taken place in the Sudanese city of El Fasher.
While the ongoing regional war in Sudan has been devastating for years, the RSF (one of the most notable militias in the region) killed tens of thousands over the course of weeks, with more than a hundred thousand people still unaccounted for.
It's hard to talk about this kind of story, because there is so little we can do to make an impact. It will take real time to begin working through this level of humanitarian crisis. For now, sharing this information and making sure people know that it's not some little thing to overlook is all we can ask for.
There was also a shooting at Brown University whose shooter is still at large, and last night, Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead in their home, with investigators suspecting homicide.
Our "Immigration Crackdown" Is Going As Expected
The United States, through the direction of president Donald Trump and the gaggle of ghouls in his cabinet, is hunting down non-white people in the street, demanding papers, and shipping them off to facilities where reputable reports claim rampant abuse amounting to torture. While we're getting a better idea of what's happening inside ICE facilities, we're also watching as what little oversight fades further away.

However, one bright spot here is that after many months, Kilmar Abrego Garcia—the man who the Trump administration has directly stated they would politically persecute after they made the "administrative error" of deporting him to CECOT—is home with his family. His fight isn't over, but he can at least sleep in his own damn bed.

McDonald's AI Advertisement
McDonald's Dutch branch had a bit of a PR nightmare over the past few days after publishing an AI generated advertisement that truly embodies the "slop" moment we're in.

Gamer Trophies
The Game Awards happened, which is to say, they held an event where Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won a billion awards while everyone else clapped. Still, there were some exciting announcements! And of course, Expedition 33's awards were well warranted.
