Big Man is Big Mad at the Big Court

The Past Tense of Prince is Prunce

Prunce Andrew has been arrested by British authorities for charges of misconduct in public office. I am glad to know that abusing children on a child sex trafficking island is considered misconduct in the eyes of British authorities.

As of now, he has been released and is under investigation for allegedly having shared confidential government information with Epstein, if you're curious about the actual charges.

The Past Tense of Tariff is "No Shit, Sherlock"

The United States Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump's blanket "Liberation Day" tariffs on virtually every country in the world were unconstitutional. In response to this, Donald Trump plans to use a different arcane law to impose up to a 15% tariff on virtually every other country in the world.

Backing up a bit: Trump made a huge deal about his plan to use tariffs to get what he wants. He celebrated "Liberation Day" in April of 2025, where he announced that he'd be putting tariffs on hundreds of countries incoming goods, citing "trade deficit" as his reasoning, which has nothing to do with an actual budget deficit, but he doesn't know that.

Congress controls the purse, and tariffs are—for all intents and purposes—a tax on US citizens. Trump has been claiming a state of emergency which allows him to slap on these tariffs, yet as the SCOTUS noted, we're not at war with the entire world. I'd also wager that a national financial emergency doesn't quite merit naming a fake holiday to try and deliver on your campaign promise.

All told, there's about $175 Billion United States Buckaroonies which are now, in theory, available for refunds. Justice Brett "I like beer" Kavanaugh in his dissent noted that the refund process would be a "mess." That is true, actually, and it's because this entire administration is a mess.

As it stands, the original tariffs are going away and we don't fully know yet what the new tariffs will be. Now is a great time to start paying attention to the price of goods regardless. Companies have been raising prices to handle the tariffs and I have my doubts that we'll be seeing those prices come back down without some consumer action.

Slightly unrelated, but I wanted to mention that Trump also recently announced that the United States of America would be paying $10 Billion into his "Board of Peace" organization, which he positions as an alternate to the UN which he has total veto power over. It costs $1B for a nation to permanently join the Board, of which pretty much just smaller, largely authoritarian states have done so far. Canada's invitation to the Good Board was also apparently rescinded after Mark Carney's speech at Davos, which is hilarious. Kinda. In abstract.

But yeah uh, just the President of our country saying he's gonna yoink ten billion taxpayer dollars for his own private international totally-not-rivaling-the-UN board.

Cuba in Crisis

Cuba is experiencing a nationwide crisis as the United States under the Trump administration continue to escalate a long running oil blockade, plunging the island into increasing stretches of darkness.

Remember Nicolas Maduro? Remember when the US just kinda swooped in to Venezuela and said, "this is ours now" for some reason? Before that, we were already working to block oil shipments from Venezuela to Cuba, and now that blockade is a full on embargo at the order of the US government.

Cuba largely imported oil from Venezuela and Mexico, now only getting a trickle from Mexico as reserves empty out.

There's massive blackouts, months-long waits to refuel vehicles, and crumbling educational and healthcare infrastructure as the blockade continues.

Trump has stated that Cuba can "make a deal" to end the manufactured humanitarian crisis at the expense of our taxpayer dollars. Seemingly, the "deal" our administration is looking for is regime change. Again.

At the center of much of this is Marco Rubio, who has spent the better part of his life claiming that he comes from a family of "Cuban refugees" and has essentially railed against the Cuban government to rally votes from the Cuban residents in Florida. Overthrowing Cuba's government been his special interest for quite some time. I do wanna note, however, that his account is bullshit and he was outed for said bullshit back in 2011. Despite claiming that his family "fled Communist Cuba," they had left years prior to Castro's rise.

Anyway, Rubio is reported to be in secret talks with Raul Castro's inner circle, specifically his grandson. Raul Castro is super old and not actually the official leader of Cuba, but still holds significant power and the US seems to think going to him is the easiest way to try and get the regime change they want. The Trump administration has framed these talks less as "negotiations" and more as "discussions."

EU Commission Would Like a Word

The European Commission filed a preliminary notice about TikTok, citing that the app has been found by the Commission to be "addictive" in its design, citing "infinite scroll, autoplay, push notifications, and its highly personalized recommender system."

At time of writing, no fines have actually happened, and TikTok has time to argue their case, per the

This comes after the Commission previously sent a warning, followed by a big ol' fine to Elon Musk's Twitter, citing a mess of failures to adhere to their digital services legislation.

What's kinda wild though is that the preliminary findings have a few suggestions to fix the problems, including disabling infinite scroll, which would pretty much destroy the point of the app. (which is probably a good thing)

It remains to be seen how TikTok will respond. The largest fine they could face is 6% of their annual worldwide income.
