Minnesota Marches Ever On
I want to highlight a couple of things with the ongoing federal occupation of generally Democrat-leaning cities here in the freest country that ever existed.
First, I want to mention that in Minneapolis—where Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti were summarily executed by masked federal agents who were then protected by the government which also labeled the dead citizens, "terrorists"—things haven't really changed.
The White House made a big deal about sending Tom Homan to Minnesota and taking Greg "Do I Look Nazi Enough?" Bovino out of the picture. Tom Homan is Trump's "Border Czar," and talked about how the federal government would "draw down" the forces in Minneapolis. Homan went on to refer to Minneapolis as "theater," a term often used in military operations to refer to active war zones.
They've been in theater, some of these people have been in theater for eight months. So, there's going to be rotations of personnel.
—Tom Homan
Despite "drawing down" the troops by 700 people, there's still an active presence of 2,000-or-so federal agents in Minneapolis, which is more than twice as many people as are employed by the entire Minneapolis Police Department.

The people in Minneapolis are still spending every day under siege by masked agents armed with wartime weaponry, roving through their neighborhoods and demanding papers.
I talked a few weeks ago about an anonymous contact who knew of a legally-residing immigrant who was being hidden from ICE by other people. This person ultimately had to go to an immigration appointment, where ICE abducted them. The message I received began, "they took her."
Meanwhile, in the Concentration Camps
All the while, in addition to the ongoing torture of human beings at the "detention facilities" operated by ICE, we're now seeing reports of disease outbreaks in the facilities, including tuberculosis, measles, and COVID-19.
As ICE ramps up their indiscriminate abductions, we've seen a spike in child detainment from 25 a day by the end of Biden's term (not good!) to 170 children abducted each day by our government to be taken to an overcrowded holding facility across the country which acts as a breeding ground for disease.
According to nurses who have done rotations in these camps, the facilities are over capacity by 3x, while ICE agents prioritize deporting people as fast as possible over any notion of ensuring the health of the detainees. This is not particularly shocking given that this past year has been the deadliest on record for ICE detainees.
These people are actively terrorizing average citizens and are causing so much strain on the system that government attorneys are quitting from being overworked on bullshit cases. One attorney had an in-court outburst, saying to the judge:
The system sucks. This job sucks. I wish you could hold me in contempt so that I could get 24 hours of sleep

I think that about sums it up.
SPORTS
It's the Olympics! I remembered! This counts as proof!
The 2026 Winter Olympics have begun in and around Milan, running from February 6th through 22nd. Athletes from around the world will be competing in sports ranging from "that's the coolest shit I've ever seen" to "I don't know how this became a sport but I'm glad I get to see it happen."
There's been a handful of medals won already, and I've not even competed yet. Japan took home the gold in "Men's Snowboard Big Air," which I know is a super rad sport, but sounds like a bargain bin Nintendo 64 game.

Of course, the opening ceremony was an event, and the world watched as J.D. Vance was loudly booed as he was put up on the ol' jumbotron. It's like a kiss cam, but for weak losers who hold no values beyond retaining power for the wealthy.
There's also been a fair bit of protesting against the event, with protestors standing against the inclusion of Israel and the US along with a presence of ICE agents.
Over stateside, we've got our own big sporting event going on. Several beefy boys are competing in the Super Bowl this weekend. Actually, like, while I'm writing this.
The New England Patriots are up against the Seattle Seahawks, proving that proximity to the Canadian border increases is directly related to likelihood of making it to that very splendid owl.
The winner was The Seattle Seahawks. We'll see if I remember to update that (I did!)
A Resilience That Floors Me; A Pattern That Never Should Have Been
The attacks on Gaza never stopped.
There's honestly very little left for me to say at this point, as I've spent years now posting some variation of, "hey, Israel bombed Gaza despite saying they aren't doing that, and killed dozens more civilians despite saying they aren't doing that."
Just last week, an assault including air strikes and attack helicopters took out a facility housing displaced women and children in Gaza. Israel's response was—as always—"Hamas was there but underground and we don't need to show you proof".
That's not even the most recent airstrike on the strip. Please do not ever let someone get away with claiming that the "conflict between Israel and Hamas has been resolved," because people are still actively being targeted by heavy artillery while trying to dig their home out of the rubble.
The Wa-plosion
The Washington Post just kinda went boop last week. Like, rip.
On February 4th, the Washington Post (henceforth, "Wapeepapo") announced job cuts on the order of about 300 staff members, taking out a third of their reporters in one go.
Among the cuts were:
- The entire sports desk
- The entire books desk
- Audio/Video teams (some podcasts included)
- Culture teams
- Most foreign coverage teams
Instead, the fine leadership of Wapeepapo decided they'd rather focus on government and security, meaning I guess it'll just become a sort of political rag? Truly unclear what they're going for beyond, "Jeff Bezos wants to own a journalistic media company that is both relevant during authoritarianism yet not a threat to the authoritarian."
As the cuts were announced, reporters from across the world got word of their layoffs. Lizzie Johnson, a former Wapeepapo journalist, learned of the job cuts from within her car parked in the midst of the active war in Ukraine, where she had been operating without power for days while reporting on the Russian attacks as strikes have targeted energy infrastructure. She posted that she was, "laid off by The Washington Post in the middle of a warzone."
Employees of the 'Papo then learned that their CEO, Will Lewis, had been attending Super Bowl parties while the layoffs were happening. He didn't even participate in the communications. He has since stepped down as CEO, because obviously.
Jeff Bezos purchased the Washington Post in 2013 for a mere $250 million. This is the newspaper that broke Watergate. They've got a collective 76 Pulitzer prizes. It's been in publication since the late 1800's. Regardless of the modern outlook towards The Media, it's a damn shame to watch a journalistic institution destroy itself while the actual journalists doing the journalism at the journalistic institution are just trying to journal.
I'll end with a nice quote from the former executive editor from Wapapeepo, Martin Baron:
"Bezos's sickening efforts to curry favor with President Trump have left an especially ugly stain of their own. […] This is a case study in near-instant, self-inflicted brand destruction."
—Martin Baron
France Gets Musky
Elon Musk is beefing with the EU itself as well as several individual member states of the EU, mostly because he doesn't want to have to adhere to local regulations with regards to his for-profit non-consentual-deepfake-nudes-generator service, Twitter.
Last week, French authorities raided Twitter's Paris office as a part of an ongoing investigation into Grok's uncanny ability to render realistic looking images of other users, including children. This comes at the same time as Britain is investigating Musk's social network for privacy issues relating to Grok, and the EU Commission's fine over the checkmark fiasco.
Musk's general response to all of this is to claim that these European countries are being "political" and "unfair" as they enforce their local policies regarding social media.
Unfortunately for us all, Musk's grasp of policy and adherence therein is not particularly great. In fact, we learned of recent court filings from a coalition of federal employees that the DOGE crew, during their time at the Social Security Administration, did exactly the thing we thought they did: access private information in the Social Security database and transfer that information insecurely through unapproved third parties, such as Cloudflare. Here's an excerpt from the court filing:
Members of SSA's DOGE Team were using links to share data through the third-party server "Cloudflare." Cloudflare is not approved for storing SSA data and when used in this manner is outside SSA's security protocols. SSA did not know, until its recent review, that DOGE Team members were using Cloudflare during this period. Because Cloudflare is a third-party entity, SSA has not been able to determine exactly what data were shared to Cloudflare or whether the data still exist on the server.
Idea for anyone interested: Maybe Elon Musk should be not not in a jail cell.
