More Like "Expedition 33 Awards"
The Game Awards happened, and with it a bunch of announcements. There were awards too, if you were the developers of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, at least.
The Game Awards happened, and let's be clear about a few things: the Game Awards is pretty shitty. Actually, that was just the one thing. But we're clear on that now.
Anyway, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won like, everything. Game of the Year as well as Best Art Direction, Game Direction, Narrative, Score, Performance (Jennifer English), Indie Game, Debut Indie Game, and RPG. I may have missed something, but that's just because I can't count that high.
The Game Awards is largely just a vessel for showing off high profile game announcements at this point since E3 was E-jected from this world. So here's some of those announcements.
My Top Hype: New Divinity Game from Larian
Larian Studios, the company that made Baldur's Gate 3, announced a new major game in their "Divinity" franchise, largely regarded as some of the best RPGs out there.
As a part of the announcement, they had set up some kind of statue in the desert?? And they were like "hey, here's this weird statue" which set the internet ablaze trying to figure out what the weird statue was about.

It was about a new Larian game. I'm satisfied.
It'll be a classic Larian RPG and they say it'll be "bigger than Baldur's Gate 3," so uh, I'll be waiting patiently here for as long as they need me to.
Some Other Highlights
Among the announcements, here's some of the stuff I had a nonzero reaction to:
- A new Control game was announced called Control: Resonant. I never played the first one myself, despite very much wanting to
- You'll be able to play as Leon Kennedy in the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem game
- Two new Tomb raider games including a "reimagining" of the original from 1996 using Unreal 5 as the engines
- A new mainline Mega Man game
- A new trailer for the Street Fighter movie which looks WILD and I have no idea what to expect (aside from assuming it'll be awful)
- Some kind of new D&D themed RPG all about being a Warlock
And a bunch more trailers, teasers, first looks, and of course a big pile of hero-arena-shooter-battle-royale-free-to-play-with-battle-pass type games, as nature demands.
